Italian conversation lessons with a literary focus. Spend an evening with fabulous works of short fiction by celebrated and lesser-known Italian authors. Meet with other students online to discuss, debate and discover. Improve your Italian communication skills, analyse short fiction and meet new people. One of our culturally focused Italian courses online, our much-loved Il Club del Racconto began as an informal meet-up in bars and cafés in London. Small groups, great conversations, an aperitivo perhaps, but always a passion for literature and ideas. Now an online community we can warmly welcome readers and students from across the globe, but at its heart Il Club del Racconto remains the same: a tiny London café, a friendly crowd, and great stories. Please bring your own aperitivo! Suitable for intermediate and advanced levels.

How it works

Il Club del Racconto meets online every two weeks on a Monday evening at 19:00 UK time. Meetings are hosted on Zoom and usually last about one hour. Discussions are entirely in Italian. On receipt of payment you will receive a link to the meeting, the short story to be discussed and questions or prompts for discussion relevant to the story. Il Club del Racconto sessions are very informal but supervised by highly experienced and qualified Italian tutors.

  1. Joanna

Inspiring! Warm company with enjoyable, diverse short fiction discussed in small groups. Of sufficient challenge and interest, without being overly intensive, to entice even the busiest ‘student of Italian’ back to their books!

  2. Emma, Artist

All on ‘Zoom’. An espresso, an aperitivo perhaps, a tight packed bar in a central city somewhere, my kitchen, your lounge. A friendly group with a shared passion for freedom of thought and idea, discussion, and debate… inspiring, diverse, sometimes challenging; always a fun way to spend an hour.

  3. Alison

It’s great to be introduced to a range of Italian authors, from different periods, in many writing styles and on different topics. The choices made by Cristina and Genesia are always interesting, and by exchanging reactions to the writings with others in the Club there is an opportunity for obtaining greater insight into the works.

For me the Club is an amazing opportunity to lift my language comprehension beyond the classroom level, to familiarise with beautiful and rich Italian literature through short pieces, and share among fellow members the insights. Really enjoy this 1 hour format – makes it manageable with the rest of my busy schedule!

The club is an excellent way of improving conversational skills, and analysing short stories in the convivial company of learners of different backgrounds and abilities. I enjoy trying to keep up !
